Meet Huw Slocombe, one of our new Electronics Design Engineers.
- What do you do at Design Reality?
I’ve only just joined Design Reality in September 2021 as an electronics engineer, so I’m still finding the ropes, but during my time here, I will be trying to become as competent as possible in as many relevant areas as I can.
So far I’ve been exposed to the majority of electronic design, including hardware and software, utilising my skills in C, C++, Python, and Java.
- What did you do you before working at Design Reality?
I completed my studies at Sheffield Hallam University in 2019, gaining a BEng with honours in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
Since then, I have worked for several companies, gaining experience as an electronic engineer, systems engineer, and security engineer.
- What has been the most interesting project you’ve worked on so far?
My final year project at university was in the design and development of a wireless intercom system to help people with hearing impairment.
As well as being a really interesting project to work on, it also improved my skills in several areas, including networking, electronic circuit building, embedded software development, presentation skills, project management skills, and documentation.
- Describe yourself in 3 words (ish).
Easy-going, always-willing-to-learn and quick to pick-up new skills.
- What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of electronics, I mainly like to play and watch sport (football, cricket, golf, squash…). Other than that, I also enjoy keeping fit – whether it’s running, swimming, walking, going to the gym – and spending time with family and friends.
