Troy Baker is one of the founding members of Design Reality, setting up the company in 2001, with his wife Caroline. In February 2021, with Full Support Group’s acquisition of Design Reality, Troy stepped aside as Managing Director and now sits on the board of directors as our New Product Development Director.
- What do you do at Design Reality?
I have the role of New Product Development Director, using my years of experience in guiding and advising the company on which projects to take on and potential development areas to pursue.
My specialist skill set lies in PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) design, with a particular focus on RPE (Respiratory Protective Equipment).
As a designer, I have a number of skills, most notably being a proficiency in the use of PTC’s Creo CAD package for the delivery of products.
I am excited about the future of DR under its new ownership and what the future holds with respect to new and exciting products!
- What did you do you before working at Design Reality?
After studying Product Design and Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University, I joined Rand Worldwide who, at the time, were the main reseller of PTC products across the globe. As an Applications Engineer for them I led training, demoing and consulting services in the use of PTC software for their huge client base across the world.
- Most interesting project you’ve worked on so far?
I have taken an active role in many projects across the business, and all of them have been interesting in their own way.
Personally though, some of my favourite projects have been:
- GSR
- AV2000
- AV3000
- Vision Phantom
- Scott Sight
- The new C5 Platform (built on my modular concept designs)
- The Corpro Platform FFM1600 and HM1400 and relevant filters.
- FitCheck Technology
- The Revolution Mask system
While by no means an exhaustive list, these represent some of the major milestone projects that I took a very active role in.
If I had to choose just one product though, it would have to be the GSR, as that’s the first design that really put us on the map.
