Driving a New Standard
Utilising our expertise in low-volume silicone moulding and knowledge of human factor testing, Design Reality has developed ISO Head Forms that are considerate of the modularity required by the standard for field of view (FOV) and noise measurement.
Using our in-house design team and 3D printing capabilities, we can provide unique solutions bespoke to your requirements.
With a range of sizes and varieties available, our Head Forms are specifically designed for laboratory testing in the UK, USA and Germany for ongoing verification, practical feedback and industrial development.
Please note – the updated ISO 16900 has not yet been officially released and the Head Forms depicted could change.

Specifications
The base construction of any particular Head Form centres around the stainless steel trachea assembly over moulded in a platinum cure 30 A shore silicone rubber that can withstand everyday laboratory use.
Where field of view and noise enhancements are required, we utilise 3D printing which enables us to respond quickly to any bespoke requirements for bulbs or microphones. Currently we supply x2 12v G4 LED bulbs for field of view and x2 Shure ML183 microphones for noise testing.
The trachea has integrated fittings for bench-mounted stability, especially when used with the testing base that allows quick access to the sampling points for CO2, temperature and pressure.
The Process
Utilising our expertise in low-volume silicone moulding and knowledge of human factor testing, Design Reality has developed ISO Head Forms that are considerate of the modularity required by the standard for field of view (FOV) and noise measurement.

The new ISO Head Form was developed with standardisation in mind.
While the original Head Form scans were anatomically correct, for testing purposes they had too much detail. The necks were too short to accommodate neck seals and they did not encompass all features necessary for consistency of performance across the range.
Improving upon the original 3D scan data, we undertook a complex surface modelling to remove remove irregularities and produce a new-and-improved generic yet multi-purpose Head Form.
Each Head Form is constructed in-house to the master pattern, using a combination of CNC machining and bespoke 3D printing.
The model is then cast in silicone rubber inside a precision cut mould box, unique to each Head Form.

Using a range of modular inserts and endo-skeleton configurations, the full range of breathing, FOV and noise testing Head Forms can be manufactured using a single tool.
We manufacture each Head Form in-house, ranging from the endo-skeleton, the 3D printed ear pods and casting the head in a premium 30 Shore A platinum cure silicone rubber. Control over the tooling and a variety of inserts allows us to produce the full range of breathing, field of view and noise testing Head Forms from a single tool.
Using a traditional casting process, we have the ability to also use alternative silicones and/or pigmentation depending on the customer’s requirements and application with no disruption to setup or production flow.
A lead time of 6-8 weeks from order to delivery is to be typically expected but may vary dependent upon any unique design requests that need to be considered.
